I am a huge fan of Leonard Cohen... Thanks for having this tribe! I just typed in "cohen" in the search and here I be!
I even met him in Montreal a few times when I was younger. I had made friend with Suzanne Verdal (of the famed song) and spent a summer dancing in Old Montreal with her. And she was just like the song describes her to be... So yeah... I met Leonard Cohen at her place once and before that sitting on some steps of a house on a nice spring day... the kind that gets everyone out of their house in Montreal.. we had a chat and I pretended I didn't recognize him and I also used to see him at an all night place on St Laurent called Bagels Etc. He would be writing in a corner and people left him alone... But anyway... I love his words and his voice and his music! So I look forward to posting with you all!

Re: Hello Everyone!
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 9:38 PMCBC TV news, here in Canada, had a special report on Suzanne last weekend, giving the background on her early time with Leonard; and she expressed disappointment and sadness at how he was so reserved and distant with her when they met last, a few years ago. However, she was forgiving and charming about it as she danced her way into the Pacific surf somewhere in California, ever the sixties flower child... -

Re: Hello Everyone!
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 11:04 PMYes... I lost touch with her many years ago but I would love to see her again... She was very beautiful... inside and out, intense and passionate, totally devoted to the art of dance (touching our perfect body with her mind) but it unfortunately caused her to have a bad back so she suffered a lot with that. She still danced in spite of it, as it was like air and water for her. She lived in a loft in Old Montreal; she had recently returned from the States when I met her and she always was shy when people mentioned she was "the" Suzanne from the song. I met her in a bar where she had come to hear one of her friends sing and the friend, when on stage, introduced her to the crowd and welcomed her back to Canada. It so happened that I was friends with the singer too so we all hung out after the gig. I started to go visit her and hang out with her. I loved to dance too. She did dress in a very Salvation Army counter kind of way but very elegantly... and she was half crazy too I guess... but good crazy... passion crazy. She was a lot of fun and really influenced me in how I manifest my vital energy when I dance and in how I live. I remember she had these little dancing boots.. kinda like granny boots but nicer and cutom-made. She told me where I could go get a pair made too and then we would put them on and wear very colorful tights/nylons and crazy skirts to go dancing... We often went to dance clubs when they were empty (early in the evening on a weekday) and take turns requesting songs from the djs and dancing our asses off! We just drank water and got high on the dancing... She was a lot older than me (she had a daughter a year older than me) but we felt very equal and a bit like sisters... She also was a great example of agelessness... I bet she is the same way today.
Well that's it for now.. thanks for asking me to remember a wonderful woman I once knew...
